Writing center

Last week on Thursday I had my first appointment at the writing center. I made an appointment the previous week to meet with David. I arrived there and he told me to just go sit on the couch while he grabbed a piece of paper. The atmosphere was nice. To be honest writing center had a very warm and cozy vibe to it. There was an option to get free coffee which I passed on but appreciated the option.

David asked me to fill the paper with some information about why I was there and what I wanted to accomplish. We both sat on the couch and he read my paper and gave me advice to fix my small errors. It took him about 5 minutes for him to finish reading my paper. David gave me some good advice about organization and embedding. Overall it only took about fifteen minutes and I got some helpful advice. Overall I am glad that I went even though I was obligated to.

Free Topic

One of the best weeks of  my life was the week of cross country boot camp. It was a one week long camp hosted by a former team parent in Destin, Florida. Every morning we would wake up early and the first thing we would do is run for an hour and a half. Then between five and six in the afternoon we would run again. The time between the two runs of the day we would spend doing whatever we wanted.

The time between the runs was were all the fun stuff happened. We were within walking distance to the beach so we would frequently visit it some every day. I probably watched 15 different movies that week just while hanging out in the freshmen/sophomore area. I went to waffle house three different times for lunch that week alone. There was one really awkward time in the waffle house though when our waitress was super stressed out because a customer complained about her earlier and she thought they were being rude so the whole time she was serving us she was talking about someone she hates and about her personal problems and trying to get us to feel bad for her and all the while we're just trying to eat waffles.

literary analysis process

So far in my literary analysis I have written a pretty solid draft. What took me the most time was gathering information and skimming the book for quotes I could use. I feel like I'm only a couple of revisions away from a solid paper. What I feel i need to work on though is better organizing my points and argument and to strengthen my conclusion.

There were many parts of writing the analysis that I became discouraged. Flipping through the book and getting quotes took me around 2 hours alone. The hardest part was just picking a topic and figuring out what information to look for. The second hardest part was taking the quotes and points and writing well written paragraphs to go with them. Though through the hard work I put into it I now feel like the draft is a good milestone in the paper.

symbolism week 6

Tommy was a young man living in New York. Timmy was a very quite and reserved and loved and relied his dog more than anything. Tommy's dog wasn't the cutest or strongest dog. The dog's back left leg was amputated when it was young and has needed a wheelchair ever since. Tommy frequently took his dog to the park but the dog would rarely interact with other dogs. Every time Tommy was feeling down he knew he could rely on his dog to comfort him. Tommy enjoyed to listen to other`s conversation and often became attached to others quickly despite never actually interacting.

One day while Tommy was taking his dog to the park, he spotted a young chap sitting across from him on the subway. After twenty minutes of observing, Tommy tied the dog by his leash to the subway rail and went over to the chap. Tommy asked him if he would like to see a meme that Tommy had created. Tommy worked very hard on this meme, putting weeks of effort into it. No one had ever agreed to see Tommy's meme. The chap, who seemed very friendly agreed to gaze upon the meme. Tommy quickly got exited. He reached into his pockets to pull out his phone. After two awkward minutes of swiping through pictures Tommy finally found it. He presented the picture to the stranger and the stranger replied "Ehh. It's not that good". Tommy was devastated. Right away subway came to a stop and then immediately the chap got up and left without saying another word. Tommy was also to get of at this spot but when he looked around he could no longer find his dog. Tommy found out the next day that his dog escaped and fell into the tracks. Tommy forced himself to stop using the subway due to his ignorance and lack of ability to take care of his dog and never showed his meme to anyone ever agian. Again, Tommy felt emptiness inside.

Symbolic meanings:

Dog: Tommy's self confidence and reassurance (crippled then gone)

Meme: Tommy's personality and who he is as a person.

Subway: social gatherings/interactions

Young Chap: society
